Kanem–Borno — The Thousand-Year Empire of Lake Chad
Founded by the Sayfawa dynasty around the 8th century east of Lake Chad and refounded in Borno after 1387, Kanem–Borno is the longest-ruling dynasty in African history — a Saharan trading and Islamic-learning empire that survived for over a thousand years until destroyed by the Sudanese warlord Rabih az-Zubayr in 1893.
