The November 2018 visit was Charles's fourth to Nigeria (1990, 1999, 2006, 2018) and Camilla's first. They were received at the Presidential Villa on 6 November by President Muhammadu Buhari, who hosted a state lunch attended by the Ooni of Ife, the Sultan of Sokoto, the Emir of Kano and the Oba of Benin. On 7 November Charles held a closed engagement with Nigerian entrepreneurs on climate change and the Commonwealth Clean Oceans Alliance; Camilla visited a Save the Lives at Birth maternal-health project. On 8 November the couple laid a wreath at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Memorial, Abuja, in a ceremony at which both an imam and a chaplain offered prayers — a deliberate signal on Nigeria's communal tensions. It was Charles's last visit before his accession as King Charles III in September 2022.
