Harry and Meghan's Invictus Trip

Harry and Meghan — by then formally non-working royals — travelled to Nigeria at the invitation of General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, in connection with Harry's Invictus Games programme for wounded servicemen. They landed in Abuja on 10 May 2024, met President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's wife Oluremi Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, addressed a mental-health forum at the Lightway Academy school in Abuja, and travelled on to Kaduna to meet wounded Nigerian Army personnel at the Defence Headquarters Medical Centre. Meghan, whose DNA test had identified Nigerian ancestry, spoke publicly for the first time about that heritage at a Women in Leadership lunch in Abuja; she wore Yoruba-style ankara and was conferred with the honorific 'Adesua' by attendees. Because Harry and Meghan no longer hold working royal titles, the visit was framed as private — but it received full Nigerian state honours and was the first visit by any Windsor since 2018.
