NSHDP II is the medium-term implementation framework for the National Health Policy 2016. It set a target of one functional Primary Health Care facility per political ward (9,565 wards as of 2018), with universal coverage of maternal and child health services, expansion of routine immunisation to 84%, and a 25% reduction in maternal mortality (from 576 to 432 per 100,000 live births by 2022). Implementation was extended to 2024 to accommodate COVID-19 disruption. The successor NSHDP III is in draft.
