2003 — Amina Lawal case (originally Katsina but referenced to Jigawa precedent). National and international protests against the Sharia stoning sentence; sentence overturned on appeal.
2004 — Religious riots in Hadejia and Dutse after the wider Plateau crisis spilled north; ≈ 20 killed (mostly southern Christian residents); Sabon Gari quarter of Hadejia burnt.
