1976–1991 — Construction-era resettlements. An estimated 100,000 Gbagyi, Koro and Bassa villagers displaced from the city centre to Kuje, Kwali, Abaji and to Nasarawa State. Compensation paid was nominal; many of the resettled villages remain without titled land 50 years later.

1996 — Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) demolitions at Garki Village I and II; civil-society protests led by the Save Abuja Indigenes Movement.

2003–2007 — El-Rufai demolitions. Minister Nasir el-Rufai's "Abuja Master Plan restoration" programme destroys an estimated 800,000 housing units in informal settlements (Mpape, Karu, Mararaba fringe, Garki Village, Asokoro extension). Thousands of court actions; National Human Rights Commission censures the FCDA.

2017–2022 — Shiite (Islamic Movement in Nigeria) protests in Abuja Central. IMN repeatedly attempts to march to demand the release of Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky. Multiple shootings by the Nigerian Army and Police: 42 killed in the 27 July 2019 dispersal (Amnesty International figures) — the deadliest single Fourth-Republic protest-deaths event in Abuja before 2024.
