  • Chadian civil war spillover (1965–1985) — successive waves of refugees and FROLINAT/FAN/FANT fighters cross Lake Chad; Nigerian Army deploys to Baga and Marte; cross-border raids by Hissène Habré's forces.
  • Maitatsine sect activity in Maiduguri (1982) — after Kano (1980), Muhammadu Marwa's followers regroup; the 26–29 October 1982 Bulumkutu uprising in Maiduguri leaves c. 3,350 dead (federal commission of inquiry figure) — the bloodiest Maitatsine episode after Kano.
