Inaugural Address — 'Subsidy is gone'

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu · Eagle Square, Abuja

My fellow Nigerians: I stand before you, honoured to assume the sacred mandate you have given me. I thank former President Muhammadu Buhari for his service. I salute the courage of the Nigerian voter.

We must reform our economy. The Naira must find a real and competitive value. Subsidy can no longer justify its ever-increasing costs in the wake of drying resources. We shall instead re-channel the funds into better investment in public infrastructure, education, health care and jobs that will materially improve the lives of millions. Subsidy is gone.

My administration will be a government for all Nigerians. We shall give our youth a fighting chance. We shall give every Nigerian, regardless of region or creed, the conditions to live in dignity. The hour for Nigeria has come.
