Fellow citizens: I stand in humble gratitude to you this day, having just taken the oath of office as your President. I thank you for the confidence you have reposed in me.

Our elections had some shortcomings. Where these have been identified, it will be my duty to work with the National Assembly and the judiciary to find a way to deepen our democracy. I will set up a panel to examine the entire electoral process with a view to ensuring that we raise the quality and standard of our general elections.

I shall be a servant-leader. I will rule by the consent of the governed.
