Abdulrasheed Maina, former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team under the Jonathan administration, was convicted by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court Abuja on 8 November 2021 (FRN v. Maina, FHC/ABJ/CR/256/2019) on 12 counts of money laundering and operating fictitious bank accounts to siphon pension funds. He was sentenced to 8 years' imprisonment with hard labour; the court ordered forfeiture of ₦2bn in assets and bank balances to the Federal Government. The Court of Appeal upheld the conviction in 2024.
