On 12 April 2017 the EFCC, acting on a whistle-blower tip and an interim forfeiture order from Justice Muslim Hassan, recovered $43,449,947, £27,800 and ₦23,218,000 from Flat 7B, Osborne Towers, Osborne Road, Ikoyi, Lagos. The Federal High Court Lagos ordered final forfeiture to the Federal Government on 6 November 2017. The National Intelligence Agency (NIA), then headed by Ambassador Ayodele Oke, claimed the funds were operational covert funds approved by the Jonathan administration in 2015; a presidential committee chaired by Vice-President Osinbajo found maladministration and the DG was sacked.
