Between 1994 and 2004 the TSKJ consortium paid $182m in bribes to Nigerian officials to secure the multi-billion-dollar Bonny Island LNG construction contracts. The US Department of Justice and SEC reached a combined $579m settlement with KBR/Halliburton on 11 February 2009 — at the time, the largest FCPA settlement in US history. Snamprogetti, Technip and JGC separately settled for $365m, $338m and $218.8m respectively. Nigeria's domestic prosecutions of named beneficiaries — pursued through the EFCC and the FHC — did not result in convictions; civil proceeds-of-crime claims against the corporates yielded ~$32.5m returned.
