Former Inspector-General Tafa Adebayo Balogun was arraigned by the EFCC on 70 counts of money laundering and theft of police-equipment funds. He pleaded guilty to 8 counts on 22 November 2005 before Sankey J. (FHC/ABJ/CR/14/2005) and forfeited cash, real estate and bank balances totalling approximately ₦15bn. The forfeited funds were transferred to the Federation Account under the EFCC Act and a portion was reinvested in police welfare programmes.
