The record
Olatunji Rilwan Disu (born 13 April 1966) was appointed Acting Inspector-General of Police on 24 February 2026 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun. He assumed duty on 28 February 2026 as the 23rd indigenous IGP.
Before his appointment Disu served as Commissioner of Police, Rivers State (2023–24) and Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (2024–25). He is best known as the long-serving commander of the Inspector-General's Intelligence Response Team (IRT), the police unit that has handled most of the country's high-profile kidnap and armed-robbery investigations.
His appointment immediately re-ignited the tenure controversy carried over from his predecessor and triggered a wave of retirements of senior officers who were his contemporaries or seniors in the Force.
