The record

Charles W. Duncan was the first Commissioner of the unified Nigeria Police Force, taking office on 1 April 1930 when the Northern and Southern police forces were merged into a single body under the colonial Government of Nigeria.

The post of 'Commissioner of Police' would be held only by British officers until 1964, when the title was upgraded to 'Inspector-General' and Louis Edet became the first Nigerian to hold it.
