Deep dive
Tuyil Pharmaceutical is the most significant indigenous pharma manufacturer north of the Niger. Founded in 1995 by Alhaji Tunde Yahaya-Kolawole — from whose initials the company name is derived — Tuyil chose Ilorin in deliberate contrast to the Lagos-Ogun pharmaceutical corridor, and built its market position on Northern public-sector procurement and the West African Sahel cross-border trade.
The company's antimalarial line (artemether-lumefantrine, sulphadoxine-pyrimethamine) supplies state governments and donor-funded programmes across Northern Nigeria. Its operations are a counter-example to the concentration of Nigerian industrial pharma in the South-West, and an institutional anchor of the Kwara State industrial economy.
