Deep dive
Sagar Vitaceuticals is part of the second wave of Indian pharmaceutical investment in Nigeria, after the dominant first-wave entrants (Fidson's licensing partners, Emzor's joint ventures with Indian APIs). Its Sango-Otta plant manufactures vitamins, multivitamins, antimalarials and broad-spectrum antibiotics, principally for the Nigerian retail and institutional market.
The company is representative of the India–Nigeria pharmaceutical corridor — the single largest source of imported finished pharmaceuticals into Nigeria — and of the strategic decision by Indian pharma groups to fill-and-finish in Nigeria to bypass FX and tariff exposure.
