The record

Jaja Wachuku (1918–1996) of Nbawsi, Abia State, was the first Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives (1960–1961) and Nigeria's first indigenous Minister of Foreign Affairs and Commonwealth Relations.

He raised the Nigerian flag at the United Nations on 7 October 1960 as Nigeria's first Permanent Representative, and led Nigeria's positions on the Congo Crisis, the Sharpeville aftermath, and the formation of the OAU in 1963.
