The record

Bola Ige, born 13 September 1930 in Esa-Oke, Osun State, was Governor of Old Oyo State (1979–1983) under the Unity Party of Nigeria and a founding member of the Alliance for Democracy.

Appointed Minister of Power & Steel in 1999, he was moved to Justice in 2000 and elevated to Senior Advocate of Nigeria the same year.

He was shot dead by gunmen at his Bodija residence in Ibadan on the evening of 23 December 2001. Despite multiple prosecutions, no conviction has ever been secured. The case is the most prominent unsolved political assassination of the Fourth Republic.
