Lt-General Aliyu Mohammed Gusau (b. 1943), former Director of Military Intelligence (1990–93) and Chief of Defence Intelligence, was Coordinator of National Security under General Sani Abacha. He served as National Security Adviser under Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2006, and again under Goodluck Jonathan from 2010 to 2012, before being appointed Minister of Defence (2014–15).
