The record
Roy Pentelow Fenton (1909–1989), a British central banker formerly with the Bank of England, was appointed first Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria when the bank commenced operations on 1 July 1959 under the CBN Act 1958.
He served the constitutional five-year term and handed over to Aliyu Mai-Bornu in 1963 — the first Nigerian Governor.
