The record

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi (b. 31 July 1961) led the special examination of all 24 banks in August 2009 that uncovered systemic distress in 10 of them and led to the removal of 8 bank CEOs.

He drove the establishment of AMCON (Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria) in 2010 to absorb the toxic assets.

He was suspended by President Jonathan on 20 February 2014 following his memorandum to the President alleging $20 billion in unremitted NNPC oil revenues. He was installed as the 14th Emir of Kano on 8 June 2014; deposed in 2020; reinstalled in 2024.
