The record

Charles Soludo (b. 28 July 1960, Isuofia, Anambra State), economist and former Chief Economic Adviser, was CBN Governor from 2004 to 2009.

His July 2004 directive raised the minimum capital base for commercial banks from ₦2 billion to ₦25 billion, with effect 31 December 2005. The result: 89 banks consolidated into 25 (later 24).

He is currently Governor of Anambra State (since 17 March 2022) on the APGA platform.
