The record

Clement Nyong Isong (1920–2000), Efik economist from Calabar, was CBN Governor for the entire civil war period and the immediate post-war reconstruction years.

He oversaw the introduction of the Naira on 1 January 1973 — Nigeria's switch from £/s/d to a decimal currency. He was later elected Governor of Cross River State (1979–1983) on the NPN platform.
