Overview#
Ogun is the cement and industrial-real-estate capital of Nigeria — Dangote Cement Ibese, Lafarge Cement Ewekoro and Sagamu, BUA Cement (planned) all sit on the Ewekoro / Sagamu / Ibese limestone belt; the Olokola Free Trade Zone (OK-LNG) and the Lekki–Ogun corridor host the largest concentration of manufacturing FDI in West Africa. The state's other resource fronts are bitumen (Ondo border / Ijebu-Ode axis), phosphate (Sokoto-formation tail), kaolin and oil-palm.
Geology & Deposits#
Limestone. Ewekoro, Sagamu, Ibese — the most economically important limestone bodies in Nigeria. Total cement capacity from Ogun plants exceeds 22 mtpa. Bitumen. Western tail of the Ondo-Ogun bitumen belt (Ijebu-Mushin, Ago-Iwoye area). Heavily explored, not commercially extracted at scale. Phosphate. Ibese-Sagamu — eastern extension of the Sokoto phosphate. Kaolin & clay. Abeokuta, Sagamu — basis of the historic Olusosun pottery tradition. Hydrocarbons (native). None proven onshore; offshore Aje field (see Lagos) extends into Ogun offshore acreage. Forest produce. Oil-palm (Ijebu-Igbo, Ago-Iwoye), kola, cocoa.

Host-Community & Revenue#
No oil derivation. Solid-mineral royalties to the federation; the cement plants are among the largest single-site corporate-income-tax payers in the country. The Ewekoro-Itori communities have had recurring environmental disputes with the cement majors over kiln-emissions and quarry blasting.
Current Status#
Producing: every cement plant; the industrial corridor at near-capacity; oil-palm at moderate scale. Frontier: bitumen — repeatedly subject to "imminent" investment announcements.
