1. Etsu Nupe of Bida — Bida (Nupe) Emirate ★#

Pre-jihad Nupe kingdom under Tsoede dynasty (from c. 1531); Fulani Bida Emirate founded 1857 by Usman Zaki, son of Mallam Dendo. Reigning: HRH Alh. Yahaya Abubakar (since 2003). Era I/III: Nupe Kingdom Crown action: Battle of Bida, 27 Jan 1897 — RNC under Major Arnold; Etsu Abubakar flees; Muhammad installed.

Consorts (Sonya) of the Etsu Nupe#

*The Etsu Nupe's senior wife is titled Sonya (queen of the inner court); the office of Maliki Sonya (queen mother) parallels the Hausa Magajiya. The Nupe court documented its consort lineage in the Bida Chronicle (compiled 1898), though most pre-colonial Sonya names survive only in patrilineal genealogies.*

Sonya of Etsu Masaba (fl. c. 1841–1873)#

Held the senior wife's office through the foundation of the Bida Emirate (1857) by Masaba. The Bida Chronicle records her presence at the 1859 audience with the Royal Geographical Society explorers Crowther and Baikie.

Sonya of Etsu Saidu (fl. 1882–1898)#

Senior wife at the moment of the 1897 Bida Expedition — when the Royal Niger Company's forces under Sir George Goldie defeated Saidu and installed Muhammadu, ending the independent Nupe Emirate.

Hajiya Hauwa Ndayako (fl. 1935–1962)#

Senior wife of Etsu Muhammadu Ndayako (r. 1935–1962). Mother of Etsu Umaru Sanda Ndayako (Etsu 1975–2003).

Hajiya Aishatu Yahaya Abubakar#

Senior wife of the present Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar (installed 2003 — and Chancellor of Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun). Patron of the Etsu Nupe Trust for Women's Education in the Nupe-speaking LGAs of Niger, Kwara and Kogi. *Source: Daily Trust, Blueprint Newspaper (2003–2024).*

2. Emir of Borgu (Bussa) / Emir of Kaiama — Borgu Kingdom ★#

Bariba kingdom; Mungo Park died at Bussa rapids 1806. Borgu submitted to Lugard's RNC treaty (1894) in his celebrated race against French Captain Decoeur. The Kainji Dam (1968) drowned old Bussa.

3. Sarkin Kontagora — Kontagora Emirate#

Founded c. 1859 by Umaru Nagwamatse, a Sokoto prince; one of the most predatory Sokoto satellites in the late 19th century.

4. Sarkin Agaie / Sarkin Lapai / Sarkin Wushishi#

Sub-emirates of Bida.

5. Sarkin Suleja (Abuja Native) — Suleja Emirate#

Founded 1828 by Muhammadu Makau, the deposed Habe Sarkin Zazzau — the original "Abuja" before the federal capital appropriated the name in 1976.

6. Sa-Gbagyi of Gwagwalada / Gwadabe of Kuje — Gbagyi#

Plateau-fringe stools, now mostly under FCT.
