Kwara is the most linguistically composite Yoruba-administered state — Yoruba in three dialect clusters, Nupe in the north, plus Bariba and Hausa.

Notable literary and political moments#
- The Esie soapstone figures (c. 12th century, north of Ilorin) are the largest collection of pre-colonial stone sculpture in Nigeria — origin still unexplained.
- Ilorin Yoruba is heavily Arabic-influenced; the city has produced more Islamic scholars than any other Yoruba town.
