Notable literary and political moments#
- The Wangara teaching tradition (15th–17th centuries) made Katsina one of the great Islamic-learning centres of West Africa; many of the ulama who later staffed the Sokoto Caliphate were Katsina-trained.
- The poetry of Sa'adu Zungur (b. Bauchi, but Katsina-trained) drew on this classical Hausa tradition.
