  • 2000 — Katsina becomes the 6th state to adopt criminal Sharia; isolated cases including the Amina Lawal stoning sentence (2002, overturned on appeal Sept 2003) draw international attention.
  • 2007 — Yar'Adua (native of Katsina) wins presidency; succeeds upon death 5 May 2010.
