Overview#
Imo is a long-standing onshore Niger Delta producer — OML 21 (Egbema-Oguta), OML 53 (Jisike-Ohaji) and the historic Egbema gas plant sit on the state's southern fringe. Owerri's Avu LGA hosts the Adapalm integrated oil-palm/cement footprint, and Ihiagwa-Ihitte hosts the historic limestone outcrops.
Geology & Deposits#
Niger Delta — Egbema, Oguta, Ohaji axes. Bonny-Light grade, stacked Agbada reservoirs. Key fields. Egbema (gas), Oguta, Jisike, Ohaji-Egbema, Awo-Omama (gas). Limestone. Ihiagwa, Ihitte-Uboma, Ngor-Okpala — Imo Shale formation. Resource base for Avu Cement (planned, on/off since 2014). Lignite. Ogwashi-Asaba formation extensions at Ihube, Okigwe. Clay & shale. Ngor-Okpala brick clays. Oil-palm. Adapalm Ohaji estate (state-owned, 5,300 ha) — the largest single oil-palm estate east of the Niger.
Operators & Output#
- Renaissance Africa Energy (post-SPDC) — OML 21 (Egbema). Crude ~25,000 bpd, gas to Egbema Gas Plant (200 mmscf/d). - Heritage Energy / Sahara Group — OML 30 / 53 minority interest. - Waltersmith — Otakikpo (technically OML 11, Rivers boundary). - ADAPALM Nigeria Ltd — Ohaji oil-palm.
Host-Community & Revenue#
Imo receives 13% derivation. The Ohaji-Egbema LGA hosts most producing acreage and has the state's most active host-community / pipeline-vandalism record. The Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC) was established 1999.
Current Status#
Producing: Egbema, Oguta, Jisike, Adapalm. Stalled: Avu Cement, Owerri-Aba expressway gas commercialisation. Frontier: Anambra Basin gas play extending eastward into Okigwe.
