Overview#
Gombe is the other half of the 2022 Kolmani River-II discovery — the well is on the Bauchi-Gombe boundary in OPL 809/810 and Gombe has long-standing limestone (Ashaka), gypsum and lignite resources to go with it. Pre-Kolmani, the Ashaka cement plant was the state's industrial anchor.
Geology & Deposits#
Kolmani River oil & gas. See Bauchi — the Kolmani structure straddles the boundary; Gombe state government has formally claimed derivation share alongside Bauchi. Limestone (Ashaka). Cretaceous Pindiga formation. Ashaka Cement (Lafarge Africa) plant 1979–, the only large industrial plant of the north-east outside Kaduna. Coal & lignite. Maiganga (captive to Ashaka), Lamja-Akko, Garin Maiganga — Mamu formation sub-bituminous. Gypsum. Pindiga, Tula. Iron-ore. Bangu (Akko LGA) — small. Hydrocarbons (Gombe Sub-basin). Same Bornu/Upper Benue inland province; gas-prone.
Operators & Output#
- Lafarge Africa (Ashaka) — limestone + cement (~1 mtpa). - Maiganga Coal Mine (Ashaka captive) — ~150,000 tpa lignite, fuels the plant kilns. - NNPC E&P / NNDC / Sterling Global — Kolmani OPLs.
Host-Community & Revenue#
Gombe is in the same NEDC envelope as the rest of the north-east. The Kolmani-derivation question is the strategic fiscal upside of the next decade if first oil holds.
Current Status#
Producing: Ashaka cement and captive Maiganga coal. Commissioning: Kolmani integrated complex. Dormant: Lamja-Akko coal at scale.
