Budgets & GDP

*A state budget in Nigeria is a statement of intent, not a record of spending. The number signed in December is routinely revised mid-year and rarely implemented above 70% on the capital side. Read the figures below as the size of the claim, and the IGR line as the size of what the state can raise without Abuja.*

The numbers#
  • 2025 approved budget: ₦675 billion (signed 24 December 2024)
  • 2026 approved budget: ₦939.85 billion (presented 16 December 2025, signed 23 December 2025; 68% capital)
  • Internally generated revenue (2023, the latest NBS state-level IGR report): ₦64.67 billion (₦46.17bn tax, ₦18.50bn MDA revenue)
  • Debt stock (31 December 2025, provisional): ₦91,183,108,919.45 domestic
Note#

Edo presented and signed its 2026 budget inside a single week — a seven-day passage for a ₦939.85 billion appropriation. Its domestic debt has fallen from ₦110.6 billion in December 2022, and its ministries and agencies raise an unusually large share of the state's own revenue. External debt and the monthly Federation Account receipt are omitted: no primary per-state line was confirmed in this pass.
