- 17th–18th c. Atlantic slave trade through Nembe-Brass and Akassa — uncounted thousands shipped from the Brass and Nun estuaries to the Americas. The Brass and Nembe Houses are both perpetrators and, in the kingdom's later memory, victims of the system that the British abolished.
