Fellow Nigerians: events of the recent past have called for a change. After the trauma of war and the disillusion of the years that followed, this administration is conscious of the heavy responsibility placed on its shoulders. We will discharge it with all sense of duty.
The affairs of this country shall henceforth be conducted with the highest standards of probity and dedication. There shall be no sacred cows. Public service is a trust, not a meal-ticket.
We shall be guided by the desire to restore the dignity, honour and respect of the average Nigerian citizen, both at home and abroad. The administration is determined to be a corrective regime, with public-spirited integrity.
