Operation Python Dance II — South-East

Nigerian Army Joint Task Force operation across Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states (September 2017). Initially deployed against rising crime, it escalated into a confrontation with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) at Afaraukwu, Umuahia — the home of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu. Amnesty International documented at least 150 deaths between September and December 2017; the Army denied excessive force. IPOB was proscribed and designated a terrorist organisation by the AGF on 20 September 2017 — a designation later upheld by the Federal High Court.
