$1m in the Soakaway (Amosu)

In February 2016, in the course of the Dasuki arms-procurement probe, EFCC operatives detained Mrs. Omolara Amosu and excavated $1,000,000 from a soakaway pit at the Badagry, Lagos residence of her husband, retired Air Marshal Adesola Amosu (Chief of the Air Staff 2012–2014). A further ~₦3bn in suspected proceeds was traced to bank accounts in her name. Amosu was arraigned at the Federal High Court Lagos in 2016 on a 26-count charge alongside two other ex-Air Force officers; the case stalled through multiple adjournments. The episode entered Nigerian popular memory as one of the most literal images of looted treasure — cash physically buried in a septic tank.
