Merged the Lagos Colony with the Protectorate of Southern Nigeria (1906). Built the marine works at Apapa and the second leg of the Lagos–Kano railway.
Sir Walter Egerton (1858–1947) presided over the May 1906 merger of the Colony of Lagos with the Protectorate of Southern Nigeria — the first administrative step toward the 1914 Amalgamation. His tenure saw the Ekumeku resistance war of 1909 against tax collection in the western Igbo country, suppressed by Constabulary action.
