Hajiya Nana Shettima (née Mustapha, born 1969 at Maiduguri, Borno State) is an educationist, public-health advocate and the wife of Vice-President Senator Kashim Shettima Mulima from 29 May 2023. A Kanuri-Borno woman of the Maiduguri political-business class, she was educated at the Federal Government Girls' College Bakori, the University of Maiduguri (B.Sc. Pharmacy, 1992) and qualified as a registered pharmacist with the Pharmacists' Council of Nigeria. She married Kashim Shettima — then a Zenith Bank executive — in 1992; the marriage produced their children Fatima, Mustapha and Yagana.
Her institutional reputation was built during her husband's two terms as Governor of Borno State (29 May 2011 – 29 May 2019), the years in which the Boko Haram insurgency abducted the 276 Chibok schoolgirls (14 April 2014), levelled an estimated 80% of the rural educational infrastructure of the Borno-Yobe-Adamawa triangle, and killed an estimated 35,000 people in direct violence. She ran the Borno State First Lady's Office, the Future Prowess Islamic Foundation School at Maiduguri (the first IDP-camp school for orphans of Boko Haram attacks), and the Nana Shettima Foundation for orphan and out-of-school-children's education. Her Maternal Health Initiative — implemented through the State Primary Health Care Development Agency — operated through the height of the insurgency and is the unusual rare regional example of state-led health programming sustained through ongoing armed conflict.
She lived at the Borno Government House through the years in which Maiduguri was repeatedly attacked, including the September 2014 Boko Haram offensive that reached Konduga (50 km from the capital) and the January 2015 Baga massacre fallout. Her public posture during those years — visible, programme-focused, refusing to evacuate to Abuja — produced the institutional credibility she has carried into the Aguda House role. As Wife of the Vice-President since 29 May 2023, she has continued the Nana Shettima Foundation work (now extended to FCT and the South-East) and operates as the federal liaison for Northern girls' education, in deliberate parallel to Mrs Tinubu's RHI programming. She maintains the Maiduguri family compound and continues to support the Future Prowess school.
