Chief Margaret Ekpo (née Egbo, 1914–2006) of Creek Town in the Cross River was the founder of the Aba Township Women's Association and one of the first Nigerian women to hold elected political office, sitting as an NCNC member in the Eastern House of Assembly from 1961 to 1966. She was the principal organiser of Aba market-women into formal political mobilisation.
In the 1953 Enugu State NCNC convention she demanded — and won — automatic representation of women in the party's national executive. Her partnership with Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti and Hajia Gambo Sawaba in the Federation of Nigerian Women's Societies (1959) is the institutional origin of organised political women in Nigeria.
