Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc, founded in 1960 by George Coumantaros (Greek shipping magnate) with milling operations commissioned at Apapa in 1962, produces Golden Penny flour, semolina, pasta, sugar, fertiliser and animal feed. It is one of the oldest continuously operating manufacturing companies in Nigeria and remains controlled by the Coumantaros family through Excelsior Shipping. The 2024 announcement of a take-private buyout by the Coumantaros family at a premium ended the company's six-decade run as a Nigerian-listed public company.
