Emirates served Lagos from 2004 and Abuja from 2014. The protracted 2022–2023 dispute over $85m of trapped Nigerian airline-ticket revenue (FX-allocation default) caused Emirates to suspend Nigerian operations from October 2022 — the most serious bilateral commercial-aviation dispute of the Buhari second term. Operations resumed under the Tinubu administration in October 2024 following clearance of the backlog.
