Airtel Nigeria — formerly Econet Wireless Nigeria (2001), Vmobile (2004), Celtel (2006) and Zain (2008) — was acquired by Bharti Airtel of India in 2010 in the largest cross-border telecom deal in African history ($10.7bn for Zain's African footprint). Airtel Nigeria is the second-largest mobile operator in Nigeria after MTN and the largest Indian-controlled corporate operation in Nigeria. Its parent Airtel Africa Plc dual-listed on the LSE and NGX in 2019.
