Lt.-Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd)
Former Chief of Army Staff; brought into civilian cabinet to manage post-military reforms.
The record
Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (b. 9 December 1937, Takum, Taraba State) was Chief of Army Staff from 1975 to 1979 under Murtala and Obasanjo, and presided over the 1979 transition to civilian rule.
Recalled by Obasanjo in 1999 as Minister of Defence, he led the retirement of all politically-aligned military officers in the 'Danjuma List' of June 1999 — the structural break that secured civilian supremacy in the Fourth Republic.
