Tinubu (sitting)Comptroller-General, Nigeria Customs Service· 19 June 2023 — sitting

Bashir Adewale Adeniyi

Career customs officer. First CG appointed under the NCS Act 2023. Delivered ₦6.1tn revenue in 2024 — the highest in NCS history.

The record

Adeniyi (b. 1967, Lagos) joined NCS in 1992 and served as National Public Relations Officer before rising to Deputy Comptroller-General. He is the first substantive CG appointed under the new Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.

Under his watch revenue almost doubled in a single year — from ₦3.2tn (2023) to ₦6.1tn (2024) — driven by FX-induced revaluation of import values after the June 2023 unification, not by import volume growth.
